SONG FOR A LILY, from "Tuvayhun - Beatitudes for a Wounded World," is dedicated to the life of Lily Kate Powell, daughter of composer and conductor Timothy Michael Powell and his wife Jennifer Powell, both friends of lyricist Charles Anthony Silvestri.
9-year-old Lily Kate was a vibrant, intelligent, creative, and loving presence – she sang, danced, played piano, wrote poetry, and acted in plays – and her tragic death in a car accident inspired the poem. Her name forms an acrostic in the first letter of each stanza: Lily - Kate - Love - Life, making this piece a tribute to a young life tragically cut short.
The poignant lyrics eloquently express the profound difficulty of parting, the enduring nature of love, and the strength found in cherished memories.
Musically, "Song for a Lily" is distinguished by its unique structure. The motif repeats throughout the piece in different keys, capturing the ebb and flow of emotions.
